Manipur Violence: After tension in Manipur, internet service was suspended for five days from Tuesday (26 September). This internet suspension will continue till 7.45 pm on Sunday (October 1st). Internet service was restored in the state only after five months.

Apart from this, schools across the country will also be closed for three days. The state government has announced that schools will be closed on Wednesday (September 27) and September 29 (Friday). There is an official holiday in the state on 28th September (Thursday) on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad, the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammed.

Why did the tension start again?

Pictures of the bodies of two students missing from Manipur since July went viral on social media on Monday (September 25). After this, students of schools and colleges located in Imphal took out protest rallies. Police resorted to batons to contain the incident, which left more than 30 students injured. This has further increased tension in the country.

What did CM N Biren Singh say?

Amid tension in the state, Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh said that regarding the tragic demise of the missing students, I want to assure the people that the state and central governments are working together to arrest the culprits.

He said, “To further expedite the important investigation, the CBI Director along with a special team will reach Imphal by a special flight tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.” Their presence speaks to our commitment to resolve this matter expeditiously. I am in constant touch with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. So that we can find the criminals and bring them to justice.

When did violence start in Manipur?

Violence between two communities started on May 3 in Manipur. After this many types of restrictions were imposed. So far, about 175 people have died in the violence and thousands have been displaced. CBI is also investigating the case of heinous crimes.
